The French Dispatch is an upcoming film by auteur Wes Anderson known for his distinct whimsical style, colorful, extravagant visuals and epic ensemble of cast. The French Dispatch from its earliest exposure and trailer looks a complete Anderson film. It is his 10 feature film after his last film Isle Of Dogs, a fantastic stock motion animation.
Like any other Wes Anderson film, this also includes a wide range of colorful and extremely talented cast; including some newcomers in his films, Timothy Chalamet, Jeffrey Wright, Elizabeth Moss, Benicio del Toro, Liev Schreiber, Christoph Waltz and many others making small or big appearances along with his long time collaborators like, Bill Murray, Frances Mcdormand, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson, Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe, Saoirse Ronan, Lea Seydoux, Jason Schwartzman with many others making appearances. With this big cast, it is impossible to find big screen time for everyone, yet every character might get a distinct characteristics as we might expect from his films.

It is written, produced and directed by Wes Anderson, with various inputs from Roman Coppola, Hugo Guinness and his long time collaborator Jason Schwartzman. The film will be produced under Indian Paintbrush and American Empirical Pictures. With a budget of $25 million, it would be released on 21 October 2021. It will be distributed by Searchlight Pictures.
The film follows three different story lines in an unknown city of France. The film was officially announced on December 2018 while the project was mentioned few months before it, in August. Wes Anderson called it “a love letter to journalists.” The filming was done in Angoulême, France, between November 2018 to March 2019. With his long time collaborator, the cinematography is by Robert Yeoman, while music is composed by Oscar Winner Alexandre Desplate, who also gave a composition for Grand Budapest Hotel, Isle Of Dogs, and also for Moonrise Kingdom, and editing is done by Andrew Weisblum.

The French Dispatch Plot:
The film centering on three stories together, described by Wes as “a love letter to journalists”, set in a 20th century fictional city of France called Ennui-sur-Blasé. Wes Anderson is said to be have been inspired by his love of The New Yorker, and some characters are said to be have been based on some of the real characters from from the said magazine. The film consists of 3 stories woven together.
While talking about the film’s plot, Wes Anderson said, “The story is not easy to explain, (It’s about an) American journalist based in France (who) creates his magazine. It is more a portrait of this man, of this journalist who fights to write what he wants to write. It’s not a movie about freedom of the press, but when you talk about reporters you also talk about what’s going on in the real world.”
While the official synopsis of the film reads, “The film is a love letter to journalists set in an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional 20th Century French city and brings to life a collection of stories published in ‘The French Dispatch’ magazine.”
From all the information we have, it evident that it going to an incredibly busy, colorful, charming and idiosyncratic film, with usual style by auteur Wes Anderson, his quirkiness is also visible from the trailer released recently.

The French Dispatch Release Dates:
Initially the film was supposed to release July 24, 2020, and before that to premiere at Cannes Film Festival on May 12, 2020. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic the release was delayed and is set to release on October 21, 2021.
The French Dispatch premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on July 12 this year. It got overall positive response from nearly all the critics.
The French Dispatch Cast:
The Cast of The French Dispatch seems even bigger than any of Anderson’s previous film. Which is an incredible statement given that Wes Anderson have the reputation of casting most charming, talented actors. While there are his earliest actors he worked with, there are numerous A-listers to look after.
Here is cast of The French Dispatch : Bill Murray, Frances Mcdormand, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson, Saoirse Ronan, Edward Norton, Jason Schwartzman, Angelica Huston(narrator of the film), Lea Seydoux, Willem Dafoe who all have been in Wes Anderson film previously. It will be interesting to see how Anderson can incorporate everyone with only 108 min of a film. It will definitely a sight of see so many talented and favourite actors play a role in this Anderson extravaganza.
